I can't believe my baby girl turned one this past week! Eek! Where is time going? I wish it would slow down.  We don't do the whole "ginormous birthday party for a one-year-old who isn't going to remember it" thing in our house. We got her a six dollar (and really delicious) cake and we celebrated very simply at home.

She has the most beautiful green/blue/grey eyes. This photo doesn't even begin to do them justice.

 As I mentioned in my last post, I was working on a dog and cat quilt for my sweet girl for her birthday. Believe it or not, I almost managed to get it finished by her birthday. Nothing like staying up 'til 4 a.m. the night before. Have I mentioned that one of my talents is extreme procrastination? No really, I have been spending most of my time incapacitated by a broken gallbladder. I have lots of projects, including several tutorials to post on this blog, all of whose progress has been hindered by my non-functioning organ. Add being eight months pregnant to the mix, and well...

Anyway, I wanted to share the finished product! I am IN LOVE with this quilt! I have always wanted to make a quilt with 30's prints, and this quilt begged to be done in them. I am so happy with the way it turned out.

A close-up. Seriously in love with these prints. This is my first time quilting in swirls like this. I got . I've been free-motion quilting for close to 10 years and I still found this book really helpful. I am excited to try out some other designs.

A close-up of my quilting. I love my macro lens. I don't love this stupid green cast on my photos. Somebody really needs to do something about that.

The back. This is my first time doing a pieced backing. I really like the way it turned out. I'm gonna do it more often.

A close up of the blocks. I mostly just couldn't resist the opportunity to use these fabrics again. Fabrics used are Henry Glass - Posies and Puppies and Judie Roethermel - Grace in a Pickle and Grace's Scrap Bag.

The tag I made for her. I made this in Photoshop and printed it on iron-on transfer sheets. My husband later commented that he "thought I would have used my embroidery machine to make it." Yeah, that would have been a good idea, huh? Now I want to rip the tag off and make a new one. With my sewing machine that does beautiful embroidery. Oh pregnant brain!

This is one of those things that I really want her to cherish forever. Daddy is just a tad bit sentimental. Maybe he passed on that trait? I love this:

Nothing kills me quite the way seeing a vintage/antique quilt, knowing that someone devoted many hours and their labor of love being mistreated!!! Stop destroying quilts, people! I'm the only quilter in my family. There are other seamstresses, but no quilters. I wish I had family heirlooms in the form of quilts. I am excited for my children to have quilts I've made for them.
